Topic #3 – Relationships

If you are looking for the sign up post, it’s right here.

Just as a reminder, we have a big Hump Day party coming up on Wednesday at 7pm SLT. I know, I know, it’s really bad timing for some of the challengers that aren’t over here on my side of the world, but we’re going to try to get one going on the weekend at a better time for you guys.

Okay, this topic was one that we touched on back in 2008, but I think it’s a great one, so here we go. 🙂 And remember, you can choose either one to write about, or squish them together, or you don’t need to write about this topic at all if you don’t want to. It’s just there if you need it.

SL Bloggers – How hard do you think it is to find a relationship in SL? If you have an SL relationship, have you met in the physical world? Would you meet them? Do you think it would change your SL relationship if you met?

RL Bloggers – Would you start a relationship with someone you met online? Would you have a problem telling people that’s where you met? Do you think it’s easier to meet someone online rather than at work or at a club?

BBBC Topic #2 – Being Positive!

If you want to sign up for the challenge, please go to this post.

Also, all challengers have their blog on the blogroll to the left. If you don’t see your blog, PLEASE tell me. With 60+ blogs, I might have missed someone and I don’t want to! A few of the blogs aren’t feeding in/updating correctly, but don’t worry, you’re still listed and I’m working on fixing it. 🙂 We also have some “real world” bloggers joining us this year, so we’ll have the topics modified for the SL and the RL bloggers. You are, of course, welcome to choose from either. Or you can just write about whatever you’d like. 🙂

Now for the topic!

It’s really easy to be negative in your life – first or second. Sometimes we get so bogged down by the things that are bad, we forget to remember all that is good.

SL Bloggers – Write about three positive things going on in your Second Life.

RL Bloggers – Write about three positive things going on in your life.

The Big Bad Blogger 2010 Sign Up & Kick Off Post!!!

Welcome to the start of the Big Bad Blogger Challenge 2010!! If you’re a challenge veteran, welcome back! If this is your first challenge, you’re going to love it!!

The BBBC started in 2008 as a way to give SL bloggers a little kickstart, and give people something to read. But it turned into a great sharing opportunity! We’ve really had a fun time the past couple of years! Just to save my fingers [yet again!], I’ll copy & paste most of the previous years’ rules. 🙂

The Big Bad Blogger Challenge for June: Update your blog every day for one week starting June 13th, and the last challenge post will be June 18th.

Now don’t get scared! I can hear the thoughts racing now.

“I can’t update every day!” Sure, you can!!

“I don’t have time!” You do. I see some of you in world for hours at a time, and not for business reasons.

“I won’t have anything to write about!” Yes, you will. Every night before I go to bed, I’ll throw out a question that you can answer in your blog if you choose to answer it. If not, just write about what you did that day in SL, or what you saw, or what topics interest you.

Your blog posts do NOT have to be well thought out and constructed professional posts, they don’t have to be very long at all, and I think a lot of you are overthinking your blogs, which is why you do not update. Believe it or not, people enjoy reading just little personal things. I personally would LOVE to get to know some of you better through your blogging. Think of this as a writing exercise, like the busy work that your English or Creative Writing teacher may have given you, or like NaNoWriMo. There’s no prize at the end, except for knowing you took on a challenge that really may be a challenge for some of you. And if for some reason you can’t complete the challenge, at least you gave it a try!

So there you have it, The Big Bad Blogger Challenge. Are you up for it?

If so, please sign up to this post with your blog URL so I can add it to the special BBBC Blogroll!! If you don’t sign up on this post, I will get confused and I want all of the challengers to be added to the blogroll, which stays up on my blog for the rest of the year.

Remember, you can always use your own topics to write about, but if you’re stumped, here is your first topic. Since last year we had a few RL bloggers join in [you are always welcome to!], the first topic won’t be completely Second Life related.

Today’s Topic: Why did you become a blogger? How has it enriched your life?

BBBC 2010!! Ready…set…GO!!!!

The BBBC 2010 Is Coming Up!!

So mark your calendars! The Big Bad Blogger Challenge 2010 is coming up!!

What is the BBBC? Well, let me tell you. Beginning in 2008, the BBBC started as a way to get people to stop overthinking their blog posts and just write. All challengers do one post a day for the week. Heck, do more if you want, but at least one. And don’t worry, you don’t really get thrown blindly out there. The night before, I give everyone a question to answer in their blog. How much you write and if you add pictures or not, that’s completely up to you. But you have to write SOMETHING.

The challenge is really tons of fun, and I keep a blogroll here of all the bloggers participating. We all get to know our fellow bloggers better and it’s like summer camp in a way. By the time the week is over, everyone is excited and happy to have gone through it together. Plus, we have a big mid-challenge party! It’s always so so much fun!! This year we may end up having a second party on the weekend since there are some who can’t make the mid-challenge party because of time zones.

So! Sunday the 13th, I’ll have the official kick off post and question, and everyone who is participating will need to comment to that post with the link to your blog. If you don’t comment to that post, I won’t know to add you to the official BBBC Blogroll, so be sure you comment!

If for some reason you don’t finish, we won’t hold it against you. 🙂 Sometimes things just come up. But as long as you try, you’ll have fun!

Keep your eyes open on Sunday for the post!!

Finally! The blogger party pics!

I just realized it’s been almost a week and I haven’t shared pics from the blogger meet-up! We had over 30 people in attendance at the peak, and I had my setting turned down pretty low so I wouldn’t crash, I did manage to catch a few pics! 🙂 If you don’t see yourself, I’m sorry! I really tried.

And because it’s just not a party until someone loses their clothes… after almost everyone had gone home, Prad got down to his underpants. Thanks, Prad.

It was an amazing party!! I had so much fun and I’d be happy to host again in 2010!

An Off Day

I’m having an “off” day today. Mostly because I’m coming down with a cold, I think. But, I need to shake off the bad because I’m DJing for holiday party tonight. 🙂

A few days ago, my friend Shiryu asked if I’d put on one of his Brocade Princess dresses and pose with him for an ad for his store. Wear a gorgeous dress and pose with a handsome man? Yeah, let me think twice about it. LOL I figured he’d just use it for the store, like for profile picks and landmarks. Little did I know…

I'm tall!

He made the photo 80 feet tall for his satellite store out at Frank’s Place!! And yes, I was vain enough to go look at myself. Who wouldn’t do that? 🙂

That is, btw, one of the gowns I’ll be modeling in the Winterstock fashion show on Friday.

Don’t forget that the SL Blogger Meet-Up for December is being hosted on Bluebonnet on Sunday at 12pm SLT. Guenevere DeCuir is DJing, so it should be great. 🙂 The dance area isn’t ready yet, but if you want to come sit on Santa’s lap or ice skate on the rink with Frosty, be my guest. The parcel will be closed except to Bluebonnet residents & a few others on Saturday evening until the party just so I can finish working on the area. 🙂 Remember, everyone is invited to the party!

Episode 1077: The One Where I Spam You

There’s a lot going on, y’all!!

TODAY AT 1PM SLT!!!!!! The Shoe Expo fashion show!!!! My adorable Sophia is walking in it, and I think she might be a little nervous, so please come out and sit with me so we can cheer her on AND see some pretty shoes!!

Speaking of the Shoe Expo, there is a RAFFLE going on!! You have until tomorrow to buy your ticket and OMG YOU GUYS. The prizes for the winner? SO GOOD. You can see the list here on the blog but sponsors were still being added last night, so this list is in no way complete. Let me tell you just a few of the prizes if you don’t have time to go to the page. A fatpack of choice from Phoenix Rising AND the opportunity to be a model on one of the vendors, which means a very professional photo from Skyhawke Sodwind. The unfurnished Wisteria house and a $5000L gift card from The Loft. A $2000L gift card from Musashi-Do. A fatpack of the Long Boots from J’s. A $2500L gift card from MechanizedLife, so you can get that FilterCam I’ve been using a lot lately! Three fatpacks of Tiny Bird hair. And so much more!!

What do you have to do? Go to the Shoe Expo and look for the GREEN ornaments. They look like this:

Shoe Expo Raffle Ornament

Pay $1000L and buy your ticket! The more tickets you buy, the better your chances of winning, and of course all the money goes to Toys For Tots. With over $50,000L worth of prizes, it’s a fabulous deal and you’re helping out a really awesome charity.

And in my last little bit of spam, don’t forget that my island is hosting the SL Bloggers Meet-Up for December! The party will be on the 13th at 12pm SLT. If you are a designer who would like to offer a prize or two for us to give away during the party, please contact me or the SL Blogger Event Coordinator, Tymmerie Thorne. In the past we’ve gotten anything from gift cards to various stores to just fun things like backpacks and other accessories. It’s always a lot of fun! 🙂

I need to start figuring out what to wear to the fashion show, so that’s all the spam I’ve got for you at the moment! 🙂

Cooler than the flip side of my pillow

Wednesdays used to mean one thing to me – Hump Day Party! And we will absolutely start doing those again, but probably not until after the holidays. It’s not that I’m exceptionally busy, but I have been taking on a few more events here and there, and I kinda hate making my friends listen to me more than necessary. 😉

Speaking of events, and one that I’m NOT DJing at, the SL Bloggers meet-up is on the 13th!!! Winter Festival is the theme [we’ll be outside in the snow!] and I’m getting more and more excited about it as the time gets closer. At the past meet-ups, we have had trivia for prizes, so if you’re a creator and would like to donate something for us to give as prizes, just IM me. 🙂 I really hope everyone comes, not just the “bloggers.” We’re all connected – we write blogs, we read blogs, we have our stuff blogged, and we even micro-blog on Plurk or Twitter. It’s always fun when we can all get together. 🙂

Today was a pretty good day. I got into my first content theft fight. :-p It wasn’t really a FIGHT, but it was pretty funny. There’s a “creator” of dances that I’ve seen on the front page of the XStreet marketplace. A few days ago I actually went out to the shop to check out the dances, since I am always eager for new dances. Imagine my surprise when they were poor quality, pieced together danced of OLD SL dances, namely Abranimations. I know my dances. And you guys know I don’t generally run around screaming “ZOMG THEFT! STOLEN!” But I got a bee in my bonnet today because seeing one of the dances as the #1 selling item on XStreet really got me. So I left a note in the Item Discussion saying what I thought. Immediately the “Creator” of the dances IMed me to ask why I was trying to ruin his business. LOL We had a discussion and he kept insisting that his dances were totally legal because he had the bvh files and he did all the legwork on putting things together. So I politely let him know that if he BOUGHT those files, he got ripped off. The conversation went nowhere fast because he just kept insisting that because he bought the animations, it was ok to sell them, and that Abranimations probably bought them too. Yeah. Ok.

So guess who is going to be on Fabulous Fashion on the 14th? ME! Well, ok, it’s actually SySy. 🙂 But she needs a model for the show, and I get to do it!!! I just get to stand and pose, but that’s fine with me. I’m so so excited for her to be on the show and so happy I get to be her model!!!!

But hey, my life isn’t all fashion and blogging and fighting. Shiryu asked me if I wanted to come out for a drive with him tonight since he bought a well deserved treat for himself, a car he had his eye on for a while. It’s been a long time since anyone has offered to drive me around, so I hopped out to this really really curvy winding track he knew. But the funniest thing…when I went to get IN the car, instead I found myself lying ON the car!! I couldn’t stop laughing, and of course I had to take a picture.

On the car

But the car is pretty cool and looks better than it does in this picture, since it hadn’t quite rezzed all the way for me. And he’s a very good driver. Took the turns like a champ and I only had to bail out for my life once. LOL! Ok, I’m kidding, although I did go flying from the car once when I hit the wrong button.

I am so exhausted now, but all in all…it was a pretty cool day. 🙂

La Shy Girl & some other stuff :)

I haven’t been updating quite as much lately because I’m gearing up for my personal blogging challenge next month. 30 days of updates and things I’m grateful for! Woooo! LOL But! Some things must be said.

First up, I was super excited when blogger/builder Josue Habana asked me to do his 5 Questions and Shameless Plug interview. Go read it, I’ll wait.

Done? Ok.

Anyway, that was pretty cool, so thanks for asking me to do that, Josue! He makes some pretty cool [and FREE] skyboxes, so check out his stuff on XStreet. Some of you may have seen his work before because I’ve used a couple of his skyboxes for party rooms. 🙂

Tomorrow is the Thorne-Darwin Halloween Party!! I’m DJing it and Tymm & Jerremy have set up a pretty awesome area for the party, so don’t miss it!

So earlier on plurk today, someone wondered how a shy guy could be in SL and not feel lonely, because even when he DID go out with his small group of friends, they were usually in IMs. It really made me think because although most people don’t realize it, I’m actually really terribly shy. I’m not AS bad as I once was, but … yeah, it’s still there.

Shy people are always going to have to work a little harder in SL than other people because we will get overlooked by the louder, more social crowd. It’s not that different from the physical world, really. But in a world where so many people come in, drop all their inhibitions at the door, and get wild – those of us who are shy can very easily be pushed into a corner and forgotten.

We also have to work at keeping the friendships once we get them, because we almost never IM anyone first. We never want to be a bother. Even though we’re told time & time again that we’re NOT, it takes a while before we can move past that.

Like I said, I am very shy. Some people mistake this for being aloof, or snobby, or think that I simply don’t like/care about them. Nope. That’s not it at all.

I get a little jealous sometimes when I see people who are always hanging out with others, who are loud and funny, who go to all the parties and are friends with pretty much everyone they meet. I’ve been told [in the physical world] that I’m anti-social. No, I would love to be more social, but I have a hard time just hanging out with people because I always feel like I have to be entertaining them. Ask me how many parties I’ve been to in the past year that I haven’t DJed at or stayed longer than 10 minutes. The answer is VERY slim. When you’re shy, you don’t always feel welcome at parties.

There are times when I push past it, when I IM someone first or ask someone to go do something. But even then, I spend the first half of our time together uncomfortable and wondering if they’re waiting for me to be entertaining. It usually leads to me just not saying anything at all, which…well, that’s probably weird. lol

Oh, this isn’t some big “Omg, please IM me and help me” post. I’m simply saying that if you know someone who doesn’t IM you often or doesn’t talk much, don’t think that they don’t like you. They may just be really shy.

If you’re the shy one… All I can say is that if you’re lucky enough to have one friend who understands your problem, don’t ever ever let them go. 🙂

Ok, I need food. And sleep. I think I got 2 and a half hours last night altogether. But watch…you’ll see me online tonight at 2am anyway.

I have issues.
